My Speech

Many athletes are choosing not to go to the Olympics in Rio this year, because they don’t think it is safe. I think I would go to the Olympic games because I love gymnastics and it has always been my dream to go to the Olympic games. Not all Olympic games will be held in Rio.
By the time I go to the Olympics it will not be in a dangerous place. I would want to go to the Olympic games because I want to win a gold medal or two. I want to go to other countries and  I would be able to if I were an Olympian gymnast. The next Olympic games are being held in Tokyo and I would love to go to those ones.
By the time I went to the Olympics games it would not be in Rio so I would be safe. I would not be in a dangerous place by the time I was at the Olympics, because it would be in another, safer country. Rio has been a bit dangerous with kidnappings and robberies, and with people at risk of catching the Zika virus, but those things are all happening because it is in Rio, they probably wouldn’t happen in other, safer countries.
The Olympics is a big opportunity for any athlete, and especially for any little gymnasts that want to be famous one day so I would choose to go even if there were some risks. It has been my dream since I was five years old,  to be an Olympian gymnast one day, so if I got the opportunity to go to the Olympics in the future I would definitely go. Athletes train for a very long time to get to the Olympics. I spend hours in the gym each week so I definitely want to get the biggest competition in the world. Some athletes have spent the last 4 years preparing to go to Rio in their sport and now they are not going because it is not safe.
I hope they will continue to train so that they can go to Tokyo and make their Olympic dream come true. The Olympic value of excellence is one that athletes live and breath every day as they prepare for the Olympics and as I strive to excel at gymnastics I always keep the Olympics in my sights. It would be very disappointing to have that dream snatched away.
Preparing for the Olympics is very expensive. As athletes train they have lots of people helping them. They have coaches, trainers, parents and families all supporting them. Families spend a lot of money on coaching and travelling to get ready for the Olympics. If an athlete chose not to compete it would be disappointing for all of them.
Some sports people have companies who pay for their equipment and other things that the athlete might need, so they would be pretty disappointed if an athlete chose not to go to the Olympics when they had helped to get them there. I think if I had people supporting me and sponsoring me I would want to go to the Olympics even more.
Many athletes have chosen not to go to the Olympics in Rio because of all of the risks, such as Zika virus, theft and kidnappings. These athletes are missing the chance to live out their dream. They are letting down their families, their sponsors and themselves. They have spent so much time and money getting ready for their big chance, if it was me I would definitely go the Olympics.

Lucky for me the next Olympic games are in Tokyo, which is really safe. I will work hard to meet my goal of being an Olympic gymnast. I wouldn’t let a few wee risks stop me! Watch for me on the podium in 2020!

Cross Country 2016!

On Thursday we did Cross Country. I was coming first when we started then Luca past me. Elsie was right behind me and at the end Elsie almost passed me, but I sped to get more in front of her and I ended up coming up in second place. The course was pretty easy. In the photo I'm really happy because I'm in front of Elsie. At the end we got an ice block which was really yummy and it cooled me down heaps. I'm going to South Otago because I came second. Before me was the room three kids and after us was the year three and four team which Logan won and Addison won the room three race. We are all in Read.  Luca came first, she's in Read and I came second I'm in Read. 8 people won their race that are in Read and two Woods people won.
